More People Than Ever are Working from Their RVs — Is Your Campground Ready?

Posted by Blue Technologies Ohio on Nov 29, 2022 9:30:00 AM

Widespread coronavirus lockdowns have stirred the wanderlust in the public. For 2021, the RV Industry Association showed that production of RVs was up by nearly 20%, over the previous year’s record production levels. In fact, last year alone saw more than 600,000 new RVs hit the road, bringing people the ability to travel safely while observing COVID protocols.

Even though lockdowns have passed, demand for RVs continues to remain high, with another 600,000 predicted to be delivered to RVers by the end of 2022. In fact, more than 11% of all households of people from age 35 to 54 own an RV, with the market share growing significantly among 18- to 34-year-olds.

With the trend in remote and hybrid work environments dovetailing with the new focus on RVing, working from an RV while traveling full time has become not only doable, but preferable for some workers. Working from an RV provides digital nomads alike with great ways to enjoy the life on the road while earning an income, which is why there is an increasing focus on the best RVs for remote work as well as campgrounds that provide the essentials for remote working, such as high-speed internet and WiFi.

Smart Campgrounds are Providing Visitors with Fast Internet and Other Remote Work Amenities

Our current workforce is an increasingly mobile one, with employees preferring remote work to coming into a brick-and-mortar office. Leveled-up technology makes it simpler than ever for full and part-time workers to have the best of all worlds: The ability to travel and work at the same time. However, at the very least, travelers need a stable, fast internet connection to make the work-from-the-RV magic happen, which is why more campgrounds are seeing the importance of improving their infrastructure to support WiFi for their guests.

If you want to be the go-to spot for an increasingly connected traveling public, then you should consider the following:

For Luxury, Consider Dedicated Fiber

If you own a luxury campground, consider investing in fiber optic cable that can offer guests lightning internet speeds. This is best achieved with the help of a competent third-party service provider who can correctly analyze your site’s needs and challenges and ensure your infrastructure is up to the task.

Also Pay Attention to Usage

Regardless of the type of WiFi you offer, when your park or campground is full you may struggle to provide usable signal for everyone, especially if your camping guests are streaming video. You may want to increase your signal capacity to manage even heavy times such as holidays and weekends to avoid frustrating visitors.

Also, you may wish to set a maximum speed for up- and downloads for all guest to prevent a single user from monopolizing the signal. Typically, these router settings can be easily changed on evenings and weekends to respond to variations in usage.

Commercial grade WiFi routers help campgrounds provide a stable signal for all your guests, allow you to control access, and enhance reliability, but they also offer a higher level of security for your guests’ devices.

Boost Service Throughout Your Park

To ensure everyone has access to a good signal, consider wireless boosters or hotspot gateways scattered throughout your campground. Hotspot equipment packages can bring you additional access points to reach even the perimeter of your park. If you have an associated inn or lodge or you simply wish to provide phone calling services for your employees or guests, consider using low-cost Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) phone calling systems.
